MDC gives the M17 V2i a different ownership proposition from fixed-hardware processors: the chassis can survive digital-interface changes by replacing modules.
The trade-off is that the exact capability of any unit depends on its installed modules, and the current published platform remains 4K rather than 4K120/8K.
