Dirac Live Room Correction
Dirac Live measures loudspeakers and listening positions, then applies mixed-phase correction to improve timing and frequency response against a target curve. It is the foundation layer of the Dirac ecosystem.
Full-bandwidth and limited-bandwidth licences should be distinguished. A processor can be “Dirac capable” without including every correction range or feature.
Dirac Live Bass Control
Bass Control adds coordination between subwoofers and the main speakers. In multi-subwoofer form it can optimise multiple bass sources across the listening area rather than treating the low-frequency system as a single channel.
This is particularly relevant in two- and four-subwoofer cinemas where seat-to-seat consistency matters.
Dirac Live Active Room Treatment
ART uses multiple loudspeakers and subwoofers cooperatively to reduce decay and improve control over room modes. It is closer to active acoustic control than conventional “EQ the response” room correction.
ART availability depends on processor support and licensing. It should never be assumed merely because a processor supports ordinary Dirac Live.
Why the distinction changes processor choice
A processor with standard Dirac Live may be perfect for a straightforward 7.1.4 room. A room designed around multiple subwoofers or active room control may justify Bass Control or ART.
The right comparison is therefore not “Dirac vs ARC vs Optimizer” at brand level; it is the exact correction stack available on the specific processor and how that stack matches the room architecture.
